A landscape that is still becoming
The lakes are linked by waterfalls and natural tufa barriers. Water, minerals and living organisms continue to shape these delicate formations. What appears timeless is, in fact, changing. Look at the small cascades as closely as the grand views.
Two different ways to meet the water
The Upper Lakes sit among wooded shores; the Lower Lakes draw the eye into a limestone canyon. Rather than treating each viewpoint as a separate stop, notice how the landscape changes as you walk. Choose an official route that fits the time and energy you have.
Kozjak and Veliki Slap: two different scales
Kozjak is the largest lake and features in routes with an electric-boat crossing. Veliki Slap, the Great Waterfall, is a landmark of the Lower Lakes visit. Check the official route description to see which features are included; not every programme takes in both areas.
The best view is a considerate one
Stay on marked paths. Let other visitors pass before stopping for photographs, and keep your voice low. Swimming is not permitted. The water is not a backdrop to enter; it is the reason this place needs protecting.
